Records for Mantz and Kelati in Houston
Olympians Conner Mantz and Weini Kelati both set a new American record at the Houston Half Marathon on Sunday. Mantz took down Ryan Hall’s 18-year-old record by 26 seconds, running 59:17. Kelati lowered her own record, set on the same course last year, by an additional 16 seconds to 1:06:09. Their efforts were each good enough for second place, with Mantz being outleaned at the finish line by Addisu Gobena, and Kelati four seconds behind Senayet Getachew.
Kishane Thompson runs blistering 60m to open season
At the Central Hurdles Meet in Jamaica, the Olympic 100m silver medalist opened his season with an outdoor 60m race, finishing in 6.48 seconds into a 2.1 meters / second headwind. Thompson rarely races the 60m, with his last official time coming at an outdoor meet in Jamaica in February 2022. He is scheduled to make his indoor 60m debut at the Astana Indoor Meet in Kazakhstan on January 25.
Salvodon bests Wilson to set high school 500m record
With all eyes on Quincy Wilson, it was Bayside High School’s Andrew Salvodon who came out on top with a new prep record in the 500m, running 1:00.49 to break the two-year-old record previously set by Will Sumner (1:01.25). Wilson finished second in the race with an impressive 1:02.49. Salvodon is in his senior year and has committed to the University of South Carolina.
NAZ Elite and HOKA extend partnership through 2028
The Flagstaff-based Northern Arizona Elite training group has announced their partnership with HOKA will continue through 2028. HOKA has been the group’s primary title sponsor since February 2015, and supports their full roster, which is currently set at 11 athletes.
Keira D’Amato has written a book: Don’t Call it a Comeback
Don’t Call it a Comeback: What Happened When I Stopped Chasing PRs and Started Chasing Happiness will hit shelves on September 9, and is the story of D’Amato’s unconventional running career, in her own words. She took a hiatus from running in 2009 after a string of injuries, to return at a high level in 2019. She has since won three USA Championships and previously held the American record for both the marathon and half marathon. Pre-orders are available ahead of release.
