College coaches seek a relaxing of eligibility requirements for JUCO athletes
A group of college coaches has written a letter to the NCAA urging a reevaluation of the current eligibility requirements for junior college (JUCO) athletes. Presently, non-qualifying JUCO athletes who graduate with a two-year degree must have 48 transferable credit hours and at least a 2.5 GPA to be eligible for NCAA competition. Currently, athletes transferring between four-year colleges must only carry a 2.0 GPA. The coaches argue that these stringent standards disproportionately affect disadvantaged students and hinder their opportunities to transition to four-year institutions.
Sebastian Coe has pledged to address the online abuse of female athletes by seeking meetings with social media leaders like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg if he becomes International Olympic Committee (IOC) president. Highlighting incidents involving athletes such as Emma Raducanu and Eilish McColgan, Coe described the abusers as "pond life" and emphasized the necessity of creating a task force to protect women in sports. He also suggested leveraging artificial intelligence to combat online abuse.
Grant Fisher’s secret sauce
Grant Fisher has incorporated sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) into his training, coinciding with his record-breaking performances earlier this year. This supplement helps buffer acid buildup in muscles, delaying fatigue and enhancing endurance, though traditional forms often caused gastrointestinal issues. Fisher has used a new hydrogel-based bicarbonate supplement since late 2024.
