Yulimar Rojas returning to competition March 9
Yulimar Rojas, the world record holder in the triple jump, is set to return to competition on March 9, at the Trofeo Ciudad de Salamanca in Spain. This marks her first event since rupturing her left Achilles tendon in April 2024, an injury that caused her to miss the Paris Olympics. Rojas aims to qualify for the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, scheduled for March 21-23.
Eilish McColgan calls out body shamers
Eilish McColgan recently shared to LinkedIn about her experience with the negative aspects of social media. She said, “I shared on my Instagram stories a few of the comments I had received on my recent training video. Over 50,000 people viewed it on my story, many horrified and shocked by the comments. But this has become my normal.” In her post, she highlighted the abusive comments she received regarding her appearance, emphasizing the importance of understanding the physical demands of elite athletes and the necessity of proper fueling for training. McColgan expressed concern for younger athletes who may not have the resilience to handle such demeaning remarks.
Maurice Pierce named USATF Men’s Head Coach for Worlds
Maurice Pierce, the head track and field coach at Hampton University, has been appointed as the head men's coach for the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships in China. In this role, he will oversee sprints and hurdles events. He has been on the international stage numerous times in the past, including as head coach for the NACAC Championships in 2014 and 2018.
World Road Running Championships to be moved from San Diego
World Athletics has announced that the 2025 World Athletics Road Running Championships, initially scheduled in San Diego, will be relocated due to unforeseen circumstances. The organization is actively engaging with alternative potential hosts and anticipates announcing a new location shortly. Tracy Sundlun, CEO of San Diego 25, said of the decision, "We really looked forward to welcoming the running world to San Diego this September but sadly it is not to be at this time. For now, all of us here on Team San Diego will do everything in our power to assist World Athletics in the seamless transition of the 2025 Championships to a new venue."
Wild card slots announced for World Indoor Championships
Eleven athletes have earned wild card entries to the World Athletics Indoor Championships Nanjing 25 by winning their respective disciplines in the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Tour. The individual event winners of the 2025 World Indoor Tour are:
