World Athletics ratifies six world records, including Ruth Chepngetich’s much discussed Chicago Marathon

World Athletics recently ratified world records for Beatrice Chebet (10,000m), the USA 4×400m squad, Mondo Duplantis (pole vault), Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (400m hurdles), Masatora Kawano (35k race walk), and Ruth Chepnegetich (marathon). Chepngetich’s 2024 Chicago Marathon performance was heavily scrutinized at the time for having been a nearly unbelievable feat, besting the previous record by nearly two minutes, and an improvement of her prior personal best by almost four and a half minutes.

Following 16-year-old Gout Gout’s sprinting spectacle at Australia’s All-Schools Championships in Brisbane last week, two of history’s greatest sprinters have come out to praise the up and coming speedster. Bolt referred to his own exploits at that age, saying “He looks like young me,” with Johnson stating it is, “fun to think about his potential,” while also noting, “The greater the potential, the higher the risk. He’ll need a solid team around him to help him navigate the journey.”
