Millrose Games to award $25,000 bonus for world records

It was announced today that athletes who break a world record at the upcoming Millrose Games on February 8 will receive a bonus of $25,000, in addition to their awarded prize money. Organizers are particularly hopeful for a record in the men’s 600m, with USA Champion and Olympian Brandon Miller eyeing the 1:13.77 mark.

Benard Keter, Carrie Ellwood earn USATF Cross Country titles

On a cool day in Lubbock, Texas, Carrie Ellwood secured her the national title by finishing first on the 10km course with a time of 34:22, while Olympian Benard Keter, who races the steeplechase on the track, stood atop the podium for the men, crossing the finish line in 29:43. It was a first USA Championship win for them both.

Pete Julian, Union Athletics Club no longer Nike exclusive

Julian announced via Instagram that he would no longer be an exclusive coach with Nike, noting, “I now have the freedom to coach athletes from any brand.” He had been coaching under the Nike banner since 2012 when he joined the Nike Oregon Project and maintained the relationship with the founding of the Union Athletics Club in 2022. Athletes under his tutelage have included Shannon Rowbury, Jessica Hull, Raevyn Rogers, and Sinclaire Johnson, among others.

The Fighting Irish are bound for the National Championship game against Ohio State, and they can thank three of their star players’ backgrounds in track and field to get them there. Each from their high school days, Jeremiyah Love (running back) was a Missiouri state champion in the 100 meters, Quarterback Riley Leonard competed in the triple and long jump at the Alabama indoor state championships, and Jack Kiser (linebacker) was a top-10 state discus thrower in Indiana. Global road running is on the rise

A survey of finisher data compiled by Race Results Weekly from 600 road races across 44 countries in 2024 showed a 17.1% year-over-year increase, with strong growth in half-marathons (20.9%) and marathons (14.6%). The largest increases were seen in major races like the Sydney Marathon (+52.9%), with aggregate growth of 11.4% at the world’s five largest marathons (New York, Paris, Berlin, London, and Chicago).
