Fred Kerley arrested in confrontation with police in Miami

Fred Kerley was arrested in Miami Beach on January 2, facing charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer without violence, and disorderly conduct. The incident began when Kerley approached officers during an active investigation near his parked car; he was subdued with a stun gun and taken into custody. Kerley, known for winning a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and a bronze at the 2024 Paris Games, was released on his own recognizance.

Sandi Morris joins Louisville as volunteer staff

The University of Louisville announced that Sandi Morris would be joining the track and field team as a staff volunteer. She will take on coaching duties for the program in addition to continuing her own training with the Cardinals under coach Brooke Rasnick. Morris is an Olympic silver medalist and two-time World Championships gold medalist in the pole vault.

Johnny Gregorek announces his retirement

Gregorek, a finalist at the 2017 World Championships in the 1500m, has announced his retirement from professional running. In a post to Instagram, he wrote that he, “will be moving on to a new chapter in 2025.” Gregorek has lifetime bests of 3:49.98 (mile) and 3:34.49 (1500m), in addition to holding the Blue Jeans Mile world record (4:06.25).

Ralph Mann passes away at age 75

The 1972 Olympic silver medalist in the 400m hurdles passed on January 2 from pancreatic cancer. His career highlights include three NCAA Championships and four USA titles. Noah Lyles, in a comment of tribute to Mann, said that, though he was well-known for his exploits on the track, Lyles also remembers him because, “he is the crazy scientist that helped me and my coach turn me into the athlete I am today,” due to his work in the field of biomechanics.

Race Results Weekly ceases newsletter publication

After more than 30 years of publication, Race Results Weekly (RRW) has ceased its weekly results newsletter as of January 4, 2025. Founded by David Monti, RRW was renowned for delivering comprehensive middle and long-distance running results from thousands of events annually. Moving forward, RRW will transition exclusively into an editorial service, offering subscribers enhanced event coverage, athlete feature stories, and industry news.
