NCAA record 10k for New Mexico’s Kipkurui

At Sound Running’s The TEN on Saturday, University of New Mexico’s Ishmael Kipkurui set a new NCAA record for the 10000m, running 26:50.21. The previous record of 26:52.72 was set by Northern Arizona's Nico Young at the same event in 2024. Kipkurui's teammate, last year’s NCAA outdoor 10000m champion Habtom Samuel, also finished the race under the previous record, running 26:51.06 for second place. Yared Nuguse celebrates one year anniversary with coming out post

In a post to Instagram, Yared Nuguse shared the news of his one-year anniversary with his partner, sharing, “Introducing my boyfriend, Julian.” The post includes photos of the couple together, with a “Don’t act so surprised” message from Nuguse to close the caption.

Curtis Thompson opens season with personal best javelin throw

Over the past weekend at the Texas Relays in Austin, Curtis Thompson delivered a world leading performance by throwing a javelin personal best of 287 feet 11 inches (87.76 meters). This mark not only secured his victory at the event but also stands as the longest throw by an American in nearly 18 years. This performance elevates Thompson to third on the all-time U.S. javelin rankings, trailing only Breaux Greer's 299-6 throw in 2007 and Tom Petranoff's 292-6 throw from 1991.

Ahmed Jaziri joins NAZ Elite

Making his debut with the team on Saturday night at The TEN in the 1500m, where he finished 6th in 3:40.16, Ahmed Jaziri has joined the Flagstaff-based Northern Arizona Elite. The steeplechase specialist is a 2022 NCAA Champion from Eastern Kentucky and touts a fifth place finish in the event from the Paris Olympics.

Track & Field News to close message boards

In a post to the message boards on Friday evening, long-time Track and Field News editor Garry Hill (and current Editor Emeritus) shared that the stalwart publication’s forum would be coming to a close on Monday, noting the decision is irreversible and comes as the boards are becoming more arduous than necessary to maintain. He shared his thanks to those participating in discussions over the years before closing with Ave atque vale!, translated from Latin to, “hail and farewell.”
