Matt Richtman is first American man in 31 years to win LA Marathon
Matt Richtman won the Los Angeles Marathon on Sunday, becoming the first American man to do so in 31 years with a personal-best time of 2:07:56. The former Montana State All-American surged ahead at the halfway mark and maintained his lead to the finish, securing victory in just his second marathon. He made his marathon debut last fall with a fourth place finish at the Twin Cities Marathon. In the women's race, Ethiopia’s Tejinesh Tulu took the title in 2:30:16.
Jane Hedengren sets second national high school record at Nike Indoors
Jane Hedengren, an 18-year-old senior from Provo, Utah, set a new high school national record in the mile at the Nike Indoor Nationals on Sunday, with a time of 4:26.14. This performance surpassed the previous record of 4:27.97 set by Sadie Engelhardt in February. Hedengren led the race from the start, passing the 800-meter mark in 2:12 and finishing 14 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Zariel Macchia. This achievement came just three days after Hedengren broke the high school 5000 meter record at the same meet.
Oregon and Southern Cal earn NCAA team titles
At the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, University of Southern California won the men's team title with 39 points, their first indoor championship since 1972, while the University of Oregon claimed the women's title with 55 points. USC's victory was sealed in a dramatic 4x400m relay, where Texas A&M’s disqualification helped secure their win. Oregon’s women dominated with strong performances in the sprints and middle distance events, including Jaydn Mays’s runner-up finishes in both the 60m and 200m, and Wilma Nielsen’s first place finish in the mile.
Mantz and O’Keeffe top Americans at NYC Half
At the NYC Half Marathon, Conner Mantz and Fiona O'Keeffe both finished second in their respective races. Mantz ran 59:15, just six seconds behind Kenya’s Abel Kipchumba, and though it was faster than his American record, the course was not record-eligible. O'Keeffe clocked 1:07:46, finishing behind Kenya’s Sharon Lokedi (1:07:04), in her first race since withdrawing from the 2024 Paris Olympic Marathon due to injury.
