B.A.A. makes reimbursements to runners cheated by dopers
Neely Spence Gracey and Sarah Crouch are among athletes who have been retroactively reranked, and reimbursed by the Boston Athletic Association for the difference in prize money, for their finishes at the 2016 Boston Marathon following the removal of Joyce Chepkirui, the day’s third place finisher who has since been disqualified as the result of a doping charge. The B.A.A. has initiated a voluntary payment program to compensate athletes whose prize standings were affected by competitors' doping violations, retroactively covering events since 1986.
Germany receives key endorsement for 2040 Games
International Paralympic Committee President Andrew Parsons has endorsed Germany's bid to host the 2040 Olympic and Paralympic Games. He believes Germany's strong infrastructure and commitment to inclusivity make it an ideal candidate. Parsons also highlighted the potential for the Games to promote social change and accessibility within the country. Germany is actively pursuing a bid to host the 2040 Games, aligning with the 50th anniversary of German reunification.
Koster “fine” after hard fall at Euro Indoors
During the 3000 meter final at the European Indoor Championships, Dutch athlete Maureen Koster collided with Hannah Nuttall, resulting in a fall that left Koster unconscious on the track. Medical personnel promptly attended to her, and she was transported to a local hospital, where she later regained consciousness and was reported to be responsive. In a subsequent Instagram story, Koster said, “Thankfully, aside from a mild concussion and a few bruises, and a broken heart, I’m fine. Really hope to be back on my feet soon!”
Kara Winger announced as Director of Alumni Relations at USOPC
In a post to LinkedIn, Kara Winger posted that her first day in a new role was yesterday as the Director of Alumni Relations for the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee. The Alumni Relations department at the USOPC serves to connect and support former Team USA athletes through various initiatives, including community engagement, resource provision, communication, and event coordination. Winger is a four-time Olympian and the 2022 World Championships silver medalist in the javelin.
Runna becomes official training partner for BOLDERBoulder 10k
The BOLDERBoulder 10K has partnered with Runna, a running training app, to become its official training partner. This collaboration provides participants with personalized training plans, expert coaching, nutritional advice, and community support. Each registrant will receive a free two-week trial subscription to Runna, aiming to enhance their preparation for the Memorial Day race.
